With extensive rest home and nursing experience as well as seven years as a facility manager in the mental health sector, Linda says she has always enjoyed working with older people. "I admire their capacity for living and I love to hear about their lives which are invariably rich in all sorts of experiences. "Our whole aim is to provide quality care with a human touch, " Linda says. "Patience, understanding and kindness are our priorities." Allan says since becoming involved in the complexities of operating an aged care facility, his enthusiasm for the aged care sector has continued to grow. "Often people are very lonely sitting at home on their own, waiting for some human contact. When they come to Ambridge Rose Manor they come out of their shell and make new friends, " says Allan. Allan and Linda encourage residents to personalise their rooms and make them as much like their previous home as possible. Walls in many rooms are covered with photographs of family, grandchildren, pets and travel mementos. "After all, Ambridge Rose Manor is the residents' home and we expect them to treat it as such." Maintaining contact with friends and family is very important and visiting is always flexible and open. "The aim is to provide quality care with a human touch, " Allan says. "Even if someone wakes at 2am wanting a cup of tea, there will always be nursing staff here to share a cuppa with them." In July 2008 Allan and Linda's eldest daughter Sarah joined the team as the friendly receptionist. In February 2011 the team was further enhanced with the addition of our son-in-law Brian Pullar as general manager. These additions to our team have strengthen our commitment of "Our family caring for yours"as being a truly family owned and operated aged care facility. Allan holds a New Zealand Diploma of Business and a NZIM Diploma of Management and is the current New Zealand Aged Care Association, Counties Manukau branch chairperson.
