When it comes to vaping there is a lot more to it than just an e-cigarette and often when people first move to vaping, all the terms and equipment can be surprising and confusing. Here then is a look at box mods, specifically regulated mods NZ, what they are, common forms and features and how to find the right one for you.

What is a box mod?

A box mod which you can find in any New Zealand vapour shop is a handheld power source for a vaping atomizer. They can use a single rechargeable battery or more. The mod part of the name comes from when e-cigarettes were just starting out and since there was not much hardware then, vapers would modify hardware like flashlights to customise and use for vaping. Regulated mods are power sources that have variable wattage or voltage. In most cases, box mods have a button or switch to fire up. When pressed the atomizer gets power, the coil heats instantly and the e-liquid is vaporized. When you release the switch the power cuts off again.

Common box regulated mods

There are a lot of different box mods on the market and what is available can change from one country to another. Here is a look at what you can expect from them though.

Design – There are all kinds of designs with regulated mods NZ. You can find small to large though they are always in the range of handheld and while typically they are rectangular, some can be more curved and some more angular. Typical materials are wood, plastic or metal and colours can range from a simple block of color to something a lot more artistic.

Batteries – The power a box mod is capable of depends on the batteries being used but usually the larger the mod, the more power. You can get some with fixed internal batteries you can recharge with a USB cable, and you can get removable batteries that are rechargeable either through USB or a charger.

Features – Regulated box mods have a chip that lets you change the wattage or voltage it delivers. They often have a display screen so that you can see information and the settings which include temperature control. Advanced options offer additional functions like a boost, voice command, preheating and power curves.

Finding the best box mod for you

Going to a New Zealand vapour shop can help you determine which box mod is best for you. It will depend on budget, the atomizer you use, and the kind of power needs your tanks and atomizer has. It also depends on whether you are using MTL atomizers or Sub-ohm atomizers. Before you buy something make sure you have done enough homework on the options and what best suits your needs. How much vapour do you want to exhale are atomize? The more you want, the more power is you need.
