Capt. Andy McGaughey of Wahoo Charters has been a Russell Bay of Islands local for over 30 years, skippering a variety of Marlin and game fishing vessels since the age of 21. Over the years, he’s acquired an intimate knowledge of the prolific waterways surrounding Bay of Islands to North Cape and Three Kings and is happy to share his experience with all of his charter guests. Andy McGaughey is no stranger to numerous fishing achievements and recognitions either, including several prized tournaments and many memorable catches including the first Wahoo caught in NZ waters. Captain Andy owns and operates “Wahoo, ” a 12.3meter’ luxury custom-built Salthouse Corsair sport fisher powered by twin Detroit engines. The boat is outfitted with a wide range of quality navigational electronics and marine technology, including Furuno depth sounder and fishfinder with twin 2 KW transducers, Furuno Radar, as well as a Lowrance chart plotter. The boat is fully outfitted with shower and toilet. Onboard facilities include oven and cook top, 2 refrigerators and freezers. For overnight trips, Wahoo comes equipped with 6 single, 1 extra double, and 2 crew bunks. Wahoo is offering several fishing options wether it be Marlin, Snapper Hapuku and Kingfish trips. All the fishing gear for your party is provided for; and only the best quality is used on Wahoo. On most charters snacks, lunch, as well as drinks are all parts of the standard fishing charter, as is the cleaning and filleting of your catch following the trip.
