This is just a belated note to say a huge thank you for taking the time to look after us on the night of Wednesday 8th July 2015 when our car broke down near the intersection of highways 1 and 7. My young son who is a special-needs boy and myself were stranded when our radiator ran out of water. I rang the AA and the guy at Waikari G.A.S. was called out to us in cold and wet conditions that night. His view was that our car was dead and he was ready to tow our car but we just wanted to see if it went or not after he had patiently cooled the engine down with the water he poured in. He followed behind us in his towtruck as we made it through Weka Pass to Waikari where we couldn't find accommodation for the night. It had started snowing so we drove to Culverden in the hope of finding accommodation before the weather worsened but none was available at Culverden. But Peter Jones of Culverden Court Motel rang the Rotherham Hotel who had a cabin available and got a heater going in there so it was comfy when we arrived later that night. There was an inch of ice on the car next morning and we had no idea if it would start with the sticky gunk in the engine but it did after I put some oil & water in. To cut a long story short, we made it out of the icy conditions in the Hurunui to Blenheim and then to Picton a couple of days later and across the ferry to Wellington. I want to say thank you again for looking after us even though we didn't get back to you in the morning as my hope at that time was to make it back to Blenheim if possible so that if necessary then I could abandon the car at a friend's place in Blenheim before getting my son home to Wellington.
