Lewis Gray migrated to New Zealand with his wife and two of his children in the mid 1930's and settled in Wellington. . Coming from a family business in West Germany that was involved in the Meat Industry, he found a niche opportunity in New Zealand with European Smallgoods. Lewis Gray was involved during the 1940's with the manufacture of continental smallgoods for the American forces in the South Pacific and New Zealand. The knowledge and experience from his old home country stood him well to form his own company in 1952. The purpose of the company was to supply quality spice mixes, curing compounds and emulsifiers to the smallgoods industry and the corner butcher. The emphasis was quality products with the introduction of European smallgoods and know how that had not been experienced in New Zealand. Upon the death of Lewis Gray in 1970 the company was purchased by John and his wife Beverley who are still shareholders and company directors. To develop the company further and gain more product knowledge John went to West Germany and attended the Master Butchers School where he succeeded in earning his diploma in Continental Smallgoods. John's experience has stood the company in good stead. In 1986 a third generation Aaron Gray joined the company and is now a shareholder and Sales Director. Aaron is highly respected within the industry for his hands on ability and product knowledge.
