Climate Change Impact
Food loss and waste is a top contributor to climate change.
Approximately one-third of food is lost or wasted along the supply chain according to estimates by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and UN Environment Program (UNEP). Not only is this an unconscionable fact when Food Insecurity is widespread in Aotearoa New Zealand, but this wasted food is usually sent to landfills where it decomposes and releases greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change. In fact, 8-10 percent of all greenhouse gas emission are caused by food loss and waste.
Food insecurity. Food loss and waste. Climate change. All the results of a flawed food system. FBANZ plays a major part of the solution to break this cycle.

FBANZ is successful because we are rooted in, responsive to, and respectful of our local communities in all their diversity. With local leaders in the driver’s seat, our efficient model increases food access and fills gaps when social protections that help people prevent, manage, and overcome adverse situations such as food insecurity or crises are lacking or absent.
At FBANZ we often work through partner organizations, such as schools, food pantries, maraes, community kitchens, or shelters providing much-needed food for their whanau alongside support and mentoring in areas such as organisation governance, etc
