Natalia Galvin Contributes to Treaty of Waitangi Translation

Natalia Galvin and four other translators have rendered the Treaty of Waitangi into the Russian language as part of the Treaty Times Thirty Project. The final document was gifted to Her Excellency The Right Honourable Dame Patsy Reddy on Friday 17 February 2017 at Government House in Wellington.

The document is a result of each translator working individually, then collaborating online as a team. The translation was then reviewed by an independent expert to ensure the highest standards and quality.

Natalia wrote "I felt privileged and honored to have the opportunity to work in The Treaty Times 30 project to show my appreciation of New Zealand and its people”.

Stefan Grand-Meyer, the Green Party Candidate for Rimutaka said at the presentation that although people feel discussion of the treaty is primarily about Māori privilege, the project "...shows the world that Aotearoa New Zealand welcomes and embraces diversity."

The finished document is now online and is available at the Auckland Public Library.
