Our local Department of Conservation estimated there could be over 120 individual animals in the area of the Northern Titi Islands which is about 8 km from Oban Stewart Island. In fact, we have had over 9 individual whites in one day. If getting into the cage is not for you, the great white shark can be seen just as well from the top deck of the vessel. The sharks have an inquisitive nature and tend to spend long periods near the surface to investigate the activities that are taking place onboard, they will even lift their head above water to get a better view. Shark cage diving/Sightseeing trips are run Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday/Saturday with a maximum of 15 people. Day trips leave from the historic port village of Bluff or from Stewart Island on arrangement. We also charter rates to large or corporate groups. Shark Experiences primary vessel Southern Isle has a viewing platform on the roof for a maximum 6 people at a time, hot showers, comfortable seating, with a live video of the sharks on a big screen in the cabin. The trip to the dive site takes around 45mins, crossing Foveaux Strait to Edward Island, where we then bait for sharks. New divers are provided with training in the Introduction to Scuba by our qualified dive instructor. All dive equipment is provided for the day. The custom-made dive cage is fixed to the stern of Southern Isle via pins as opposed to using ropes. If at any time a diver is not comfortable in the cage, all they need to do is put one foot on the ladder and their head is above water, with easy access to the back of the boat. Our staff are passionate about our local marine life and your trip out includes a commentary on Great Whites, local marine life and the islands history. A light lunch is provided,
